Featured Item: Isobel's Song (Her Long Black Hair)
This CD features Isobel's Song, the story of the attack on Toward Castle and of Isobel's escape. It races her thirteen year battle to free her brother, the clan chief, from a Campbell dungeon. The song was written by founding society president Jean Watson and the music was composed by Alastair Macdonald. It is sung by violinist Kelli Trottier.

The song was written in memory of a brave Lamont girl. After the assault on Toward Castle, the Campbell's, under the Marquee of Argyll, issued a Parchment of Safe passage to the clan chief. Fearing treachery, Isobel hid the parchment in her hair and walked out of the castle past her enemies. She watched as her friends and family were murdered in front of her eyes, She was left on a beach to starve along with her sister-in-law and her nephew.

Over the next thirteen years she sought justice for this act. At last, she was able to present the parchment in court. That, and her testimony, as well as that of other Highland clans, and members of the Campbell clan itself, brought about the trial of the Clan Campbell chief and the eventual execution of the Marquee of Argyll. This true epic is a seminal part of Clan Lamont history.
